Clarinex (desloratadine) is a powerful anti-allergy prescription drug. It is used to treat patients who are suffering from seasonal allergies, chronic allergies, hay fever and other allergic reactions.

What is Hay Fever?

Hay fever is a form of seasonal chronic allergies that occurs when there are too many allergens in the air. When the body breathes in too many of these allergens, the immune system goes into overdrive and releases histamines to counter the allergens, which causes the symptoms of hay fever.

Difference between Allegra, Zyrtec, and Clarinex:

All three of these anti-allergy drugs work to eliminate the symptoms of allergies by countering the histamines that are released in the body. All three of these drugs are classified as antihistamines. However, unlike Allegra or Zyrtec, Clarinex has no known drug interactions.

How does Clarinex Work?

The immune system in our body reacts to allergens by releasing histamines into the system. These histamines can cause many of the symptoms associated with allergies. Clarinex is an antihistamine. It blocks the histamines being released in the body, reducing or eliminating most of the associated symptoms.

Clarinex Side Effects:

There are some side effects which can potentially occur when taking this prescription drug, they include the following:

Drowsiness
Dizziness
Nausea
Dry mouth
Dry throat
Mild upset stomach
Mild headache
Muscle aches
In rare cases, a serious allergic reaction can occur which may involve difficulty breathing, irregular or fast heartbeats, swelling of the face; lips; mouth; or tongue; or closing of the throat. If you experience any of these rare, yet serious side effects - STOP using Clarinex and seek emergency medical treatment

Clarinex Precautions:

You always want to make sure that you let your doctor know about any and EVERY drug that you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, in order to avoid any interactions or reactions. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this drug will affect your ability to do so. Some people may not be able to take this drug including: those who suffer from liver or kidney disease, or anybody who has an allergy to antihistamines. Avoid drinking beverages containing alcohol as they can amplify the effects of this drug.
