Allegra Overview

Allegra (fexofenadine) is an antihistamine drug which is used to help relieve the symptoms and the duration of common household allergies, hay fever, seasonal allergies, chronic allergies and pet allergies.

Common Seasonal Allergies Include:

There are several forms of seasonal allergies which affect millions of people around the world each year. Here are just a few of them:

• Hay Fever
• Household allergies such as dust and dust mites, and dog and cat dander
• Pollen from flowers, plants and trees

Symptoms of Allergies:

Allergies can strike when you least expect them to and they are usually accompanied by the following symptoms:

• Watery eyes
• Scratchy throat
• Itchy eyes
• Stuffy nose
• Runny nose
• Chronic sneezing
• Coughing
• Lightheadedness
• Tingling throat and nose
• Congestion

How to Take Allegra:

Only take Allegra as directed to by your doctor or pharmacist. Take each dose with a full glass of water and if you happen to miss a dose try and take it at the first chance that you get. If it is close to the time that you would take your next dose, skip the missed dose and keep taking your doses as scheduled. If you accidentally overdose, seek medical treatment right away.

How Does Allegra Work?

When the body reacts to allergens the immune system releases histamines to counter the effects of the allergens. These histamines are what causes many of the symptoms associated with allergies. Allegra is an antihistamine and works to counter these histamines and relieve the symptoms of allergies.

Side Effects of Allegra Include:

Like all drugs, there are some potential side effects that you may experience when taking Allegra, they include the following:

• Headache
• Cold
• Backache
• Nausea
• Coughing
• Dizziness
• Drowsiness
• Menstrual Pain
• Flu-like symptoms
• Diarrhea
• In rare cases, a serious allergic reaction can occur which may involve the following symptoms: swelling of throat, lips mouth or tongue; or hives—if you experience any of these rare yet serious side effects, STOP taking Allegra and seek immediate medical assistance

Allegra Precautions:

You always want to make sure that you tell your doctor about ALL of the drugs that you are currently taking in order to avoid any interactions or reactions from occurring. Avoid taking any anti-acids within an hour before or after taking Allegra as they can decrease the effectiveness of this drug. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this drug will affect your ability to do so. Women who are pregnant or who are nursing should make sure that they disclose this to their doctor prior to using this drug.
